Deck Study Recommendations

This free information bulletin lists the 24 principal categories of deck endorsements available from the Coast Guard, shows the topics tested on each exam, and tells you where you can find study material that pertains to these topics.  In addition, it discusses the difference between exam topics and exam modules a difference the Coast Guard rarely mentions.  It also provides additional tips you may need in filing an application with the Coast Guard.

Engineer Study Recommendations: 

This free information bulletin contains study recommendations for merchant mariners preparing for Coast Guard exams for engineroom “ratings” and “officer” endorsements to serve on merchant vessels of limited tonnage and/or limited horsepower. There are a number of different “ratings” (formerly known as “unlicensed” qualified members of the engine department – QMED) and engineer “officer” (formerly known as lower-level “licensed” positions) available on smaller vessels.
